Engineering Technician

Concurrent Technologies is an internationally known manufacturer of single board computer products, for the AMC, CompactPCI, VME & VPX bus architectures. Our products are designed, developed and manufactured in-house. We use some of the latest Intel microprocessors in our designs.

We sell into many different markets around the world, but in particular we have a number of high-performance processor and other boards used in telecommunications and aerospace applications.

We now have a vacancy for an additional Engineering Technician to work in our busy Engineering lab on the development and testing of new products from our two engineering teams.

The Job

An Engineering Technician should expect to be involved in a wide range of tasks over time, providing a very good base for future career development in the high technology sector. Over the first 12 months, they can expect to be involved in the following:

Testing of the first batch of new products for customer evaluations, working closely with the project hardware and software engineers.
Performing product validation testing. This could be on the bench e.g. measuring current consumed by the product. Or it could be in a temperature controlled chamber, measuring the temperature of chip dies to ensure they are within specification.
Verifying production test specifications before release to the production test group.
Some electronic assembly and modification work down to 0402 size components and including cable assemblies. Liaison with our manufacturing group when more complex changes are required (e.g. BGA rework).
Maintaining the lab equipment and dealing with broken or malfunctioning items (repair or replacement), including hardware test fixtures.
Organising the lab to make it easy for all engineers to find things quickly and easily.
Setting up test environments for either hardware or software tests, including operating system software installation.

After 2 years, they can expect to be involved in:

Qualification testing for Shock & Vibration and EMC.
Creation of hardware test fixtures, including documenting them.
Creation and maintenance of software scripts.
Fault finding of computer hardware to component level.

Qualifications

Essential requirements:

Use An ONC (or equivalent) in electronics. The candidate will have a good understanding of the fundamentals of electronics.
Ability to multi-task.
Able to peform PTH/SMT assembly and re-work.
An interest in PC hardware and software.
Use of test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
Can demonstrate the ability to logically work through technical problems to achieve a solution.

The successful candidate should also have an ability to organise and prioritise their own work. We have a dynamic lab environment where the ability to switch tasks quickly and multi-task are essential. It will not suit those who enjoy routine. The successful candidate will also show good inter-personal skills and have good practical skills.
