- CompactPCI Dual CPU SBC utilizes Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor

May 2007 – Concurrent Technologies announces its latest range of single slot 6U CompactPCI® embedded computers using the latest mobile dual-core processors from the Intel® embedded roadmap. The PP 432/05x board supports the 2.16 GHz or 1.5 GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor and the PP 430/05x board supports the 2.0 GHz Intel® Core™ Duo processor. Each board can access up to 4 Gbytes DDR2-400 ECC SDRAM (dual SODIMM). For I/O flexibility there are 2 PMC/XMC sites supporting both front and rear I/O, plus 3 SATA drives, 3 RS232, 4 USB 2.0 and 4 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. The board also supports PICMG® 2.16 (Ethernet fabric), PICMG 2.9 (IPMI) and PICMG 2.1 (hot swap). All boards can operate as a system controller board, a peripheral board or as a satellite board (blade). This combination of high performance data processing and a wealth of I/O ensure that this family is ideal for a wide range of applications within the telecommunications, defense, security, telemetry, aerospace, medical and scientific markets.  Extended temperature variants are also available.

The PP 432/05x board supports the 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 processor (in a socket) or the 1.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo L7400 (soldered) - both with 4 Mbytes L2 cache (shared between the cores). The PP 430/05x board supports the 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo processor T2500 (in a socket) with 2 Mbytes L2 cache (shared between the cores). The Intel® 3100 server class embedded chipset, combining both memory and I/O controllers in a single chip, complement the dual-core processor to achieve a high performance, yet low power, core architecture.

Depending upon the operating systems and applications software used, a computing performance increase of up to twice an Intel® Pentium® M processor is achievable. The Intel Thermal Design Power (TDP) for the 2.0 GHz dual core processor is 31W versus 27W TDP for the single core 2.0 GHz Intel® Pentium® M processor 760 (both with 2 Mbytes L2 cache) thus demonstrating an even greater improvement in measured performance/watt in a single (4HP) 6U slot.

As an embedded board with dual PMC sites, the PP 43x/05x is ideally suited to intensive I/O or data applications. Each PMC site is controlled via its own PCI bus; PMC site 1 supports up to 100MHz 3.3V PCI-X and PMC site 2 supports 33MHz 3.3V/5V PCI operation; each site supports a PCI Express® XMC interface. As well as front I/O, the PMC I/O connector signals from both PMC sites are routed to the rear connectors.

Additionally, a wide range of onboard I/O is available to the user: the board supports 4 10/100/1000Mps Ethernet interfaces (2 front and 2 rear) and the front panel also supports 2 USB 2.0 with an onboard header for an RS-232 interface. As well as dual PMC rear I/O, the rear panel supports a further 2 USB 2.0 interfaces, up to 3 more RS-232 channels, 2 SATA150 interfaces plus an optional parallel printer port and 3.5-inch floppy interfaces. Other features included are a watchdog timer, long duration timer, LAN boot firmware and options for an onboard 2.5-inch SATA150 hard disk drive and/or CompactFlash™ EIDE storage. For applications requiring rear I/O connections a variety of transition modules are also available, including support for PIM modules.

For ease of integration, the PP 43x/05x family supports many of today’s leading operating systems, including Linux®, Windows® Server 2003, Windows® 2000, Windows® XP Embedded, Windows® XP, QNX®, Solaris™ and VxWorks®.
