Low Power
Dissipation using Intel®
SpeedStep®
Technology:
To meet customer demands for even lower power dissipation
Concurrent Technologies now support Enhanced Intel® SpeedStep®
Technology on their range of VME and CompactPCI® single board
computers, including extended operating temperatures. By
utilizing the Intel® Pentium® M processor the system designer
has greater control over the thermal and power characteristics
of the board. Tests show benefits of up to four times less +5V
board current. Therefore, depending on the application
requirements, the processor frequency operating point of a board
can be pre-set in the BIOS, or controlled dynamically via the
application’s operating system.

VITA 31.1 Support from Concurrent Technologies and Hybricon
Concurrent Technologies and Hybricon have enabled VME system
designers to reap the benefits of a packet-based switching
architecture with products supporting VITA 31.1 (Gigabit
Ethernet on VME64x Backplanes). VITA 31.1 provides a viable
serial interconnect method by leveraging the mature PICMG® 2.16
standard into VME64x based systems. This enables a tried and
tested method to implement multiprocessor architectures by
leveraging available Ethernet hardware, IP software, and
clustering software while simultaneously providing scalable VME
system performance and redundancy/reliability. Concurrent
Technologies’ VP 305/01x, a VME SBC utilizing the Intel®
Pentium® M processor, supports VITA 31.1 (via the standard
VME64x P0 connector). Hybricon’s Gigabit Ethernet VME64x
backplane supports two VITA 31.1 switch fabric slots and
nineteen VITA 31.1 node slots. The standard enables
off-the-shelf PICMG 2.16 Ethernet switch fabric boards, as well
as legacy VME boards, to be used within a VITA 31.1 enclosure.
