High Performance 6U CompactPCI® SBC

January 2012 – Concurrent Technologies announces their latest high performance 6U CompactPCI ® Single Board Computer. The PP 81x/x9x is a single slot air-cooled Single Board Computer (SBC) utilizing the 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ microarchitecture, based on 32nm process technology with the new Intel® memory/graphics controller architecture integrated into the processor. These processors are from the Intel® embedded roadmap which offers at least seven year availability. The PP 81x/x9x provides a rich complement of front and rear I/O interfaces, and is designed to provide a high performance upgrade path for users of earlier generations of Concurrent Technologies’ 6U CompactPCI® products.

The PP 81x/x9x supports the Intel Core i7-2715QE processor and the enhanced features of the Intel® Series 6 Express chipset, along with up to 8 Gbytes of DDR3-1333 ECC SDRAM. In addition, the PP 81x/x9x has been designed to accommodate the 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processor-based platform thereby providing customers with a convenient upgrade path, extending product life and protecting previous investments in software.

For high performance I/O processing the PP 81x/x9x supports up to two independent PMC/XMC sites, each site offering up to 133 MHz PCI-X PMC operation as well as x4/x8 PCI Express® XMC interfaces. As an option it is also possible to enable high performance XMC modules to communicate with each other directly via the XMC Pn6 connectors between the two XMC sites independently of the main interconnecting busses.

The boards can operate as a system controller board, a peripheral board or as a satellite board (blade). Support is also provided for PICMG® 2.16 (Ethernet fabric), PICMG® 2.9 (IPMI) and PICMG® 2.1 (hot swap); the CompactPCI® backplane interface operates at 33/66 MHz PCI signalling speeds. The PP 81x/x9x includes up to four 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet interfaces (up to two front and two rear) and the front panel also provides two USB 2.0, RS-232, dual head graphics via two digital DVI-D and analog VGA interfaces. An additional two USB 2.0 ports are optionally available via the front panel. The rear I/O connections, compatible with Concurrent Technologies’ popular PP 712/08x, provide one further USB 2.0 port, an RS-232 port, two SATA300 mass storage interfaces and an Intel® High Definition Audio interface.

An additional two rear I/O ports can be individually configured by the user as either SATA or USB 2.0. Other features are a watchdog timer, long duration timer, LAN boot firmware and options for an onboard 2.5-inch SATA disk and a CompactFlash® site.

Operating Systems currently supported are Windows® 7, Windows® XP, Windows® Embedded Standard 7, Linux® and VxWorks®. Addressing today’s need for CPU intensive applications extending from medical to telecommunication, the PP 81x/x9x SBC is available in a commercial temperature grade 0°C to +55°C.
